Starkles Australia is a proud supporter of the Look Good Feel Better Program and the Cancer Council Queensland. The Look Good Feel Better Program hosts two hour workshops in major hospitals and cancer centers around Australia. The workshops are free and open to all women undergoing or about to undergo chemotherapy or radiation treatment for cancer. The Starkles Australia professionals will give demonstrations on the use of wigs, turbans, hats, scarves and fringes.

The Look Good…Feel Better program is happy to offer alopecia sufferers the opportunity to learn different ways in coping with hair loss by observing the hair loss section of any Look Good Feel Better workshop. For more information contact 1800 650 960.

Hair Loss

Hair loss occurs when drugs that treat cancer or radiation treatments affect normal cells that make hair grow. The hair loss with cancer treatment is not permanent and hair grows back once the therapy is completed. The amount of hair loss is dependent upon the cancer drug, the dose of chemotherapy/radiation and how it is administrated. With the treatment of radiation, only the hair that is in the area of the radiation will be affected by hair loss.

You can wear a fringe under a turban to give the appearance of having hair underneath or even team the same turban with one of the many different scarves to create your own unique style. Starkles Australia also stock a huge range of hats that have been designed for hair loss.

Our experienced and friendly staff provides advice to chemotherapy patients and alopecia sufferers in a relaxed and friendly environment. We offer the use of a private fitting room at all three locations.

Complimentary, home and hospital visits are available upon request.

What Financial Assistance Is Available When Buying A Wig?

The Cancer Council Queensland generally provides $75 towards the cost of a wig. You will need to contact them and answer a few questions to determine your eligibility.

For pension card or health care card holders you can talk to your social worker at the hospital to determine eligibility for financial assistance from Queensland Health.

If you are in a private health fund you will be able to make a claim through them.
